My road to personal training started one day at the Ridge while I was stretching on a floor mat, watching in fascination at one of the Ridges Personal Trainers working with a client. I was jealous in so many ways. First off, I was jealous that, that person had a trainer and secondly, jealous of the trainer and how fun his job looked. I suppose it would be fair to say, that my pursuit as a Personal Trainer started with the wanting of more knowledge in the field of fitness and to be able to share that knowledge with others just as enthused about it as me.
I have always had a background in sports. High School Track and Field landed me a full ride scholarship to Montana State University as a discus and hammer thrower. I ended up 15th in the nation in the hammer throw in just 3 short years. And if you take a look at my 5’3” frame, it wasn’t because of my size… technique, technique & more technique. Some of that belongs to having trained with the legend of all hammer throwers Lance Deal, American record holder and first man to medal in the Olympics for the United States in the hammer throw since 1956. My idol.
It is not enough to just go through the motions in sport or in training. A person really needs to know what effects are being applied, and then a real difference can be made. I’m constantly making sure my clients have proper technique/form so we can make the most out of every workout together. That comes with me sharpening my skills at the same time, by attending as many workshops a year as possible. My latest workshop was titled “Group Training The Resistance Format”.
Group Training is my favorite format because of the results that come from it. Maybe it’s the energy from groups of people, or maybe it’s the competition of one group member to another, or the support each person gives each other, but these groups have been know to push hard and don’t stop. They come back month after month for more. That is what inspired myself, and my partner fellow trainer Leah Vogal to create the “Bikini Project”, an extremely successful, one of a kind group format class.
“The Bikini Project is AWESOME!!! So glad I signed up!!! I look forward to waking up at 5:30 M,W, F!!!” Ashley Berg
At the moment, my client base range from people having degenerative spine injuries needing to strengthen their backs to prevent pain; to men and women wanting to look and feel there best via weight loss and toning.
I wish I could tell you exactly how a training session with me would go, but each session is individual to ones needs. Some day’s cardio intense, some days circuit work. What will get us the best results is what you get from me during your training sessions.
